April 13, 2018

I’m highlighting 11 Hidden Gems in Dallas / Fort Worth – some places you may not know about just yet! One of the reasons I started this blog was to feature the hidden gems in Texas that we as locals tend to forget exist!

We stick to our favorite happy hours spots, restaurants, and shops because they’re familiar and we tend to forget what else is out there just two blocks down. I wanted to dedicate a post to some of my favorite uncommon spots and encourage you to check them out yourself!

The Winspear Opera House in Dallas

The Opera House is one of my favorite architectural buildings in Dallas because of how modern it is, and the reflective pools outside make for a stunning photo opp! If you haven’t been before, drop by during the day or hang around at night and catch a show.

The Fort Worth Water Gardens

Just a quick half mile from Sundance Square are the Fort Worth Water Gardens! This includes three gorgeous water structures that will make your jaw drop. Seriously, the oasis like hiddenness makes it easily a hidden gem in Dallas Fort Worth!

Grapevine Founders Plaza by DFW Airport

Giving away one of my favorite date spots in the Dallas area here! While the Founders Plaza is not much of a photo opp, it is my favorite place to lay on a blanket and watch the planes take off and land from DFW Airport. Perfect when you want to sit and talk with someone alone.

Fort Worth Art Museum

The Fort Worth Museum of Modern Art

Can you tell I love modern architecture? I am not a fan of museums at all, but this one is just too beautiful to resist. Honestly, Dallas has tons of awesome museums if you haven’t had a chance to try them out! If you aren’t a big art person, at least go for the beautiful views this building has to offer. Talk about a beautiful hidden gem in Dallas that Dallas people don’t take advantage of enough!

The Dallas Rock Quary

Full disclosure: this is actually on private property and you definitely run some risks going here. However, if you’re bold then this is definitely worth finding a way to see it. I recommend Googling the best way to do so, but I don’t want to be held liable on this one so that’s all I will say! This is one of those hidden gems in Dallas that most Dallasites have not even been to yet!

Prairie Creek Waterfalls in Plano, Texas

I’ve lived right by here my whole life and only found out about its existence a year ago! The waterfalls are absolutely beautiful and a perfect summer spot, or photo opp spot! It has to make the hidden gems in Dallas list, because even I heard of it for the first time recently.

Friday Firework Show Over Grapevine Lake

Every Friday at 9:30pm during the summer (May – August), Grapevine Lake puts on a Firework show. Get as close to the lake as you can to catch the display – my favorite viewing spots are Acorn Woods Park and the field next to Scott’s Landing Marina! I love that this is still a hidden gem in Dallas!

The Go Ape Ropes Course in Plano

This was one of the MOST FUN things to do that we didn’t expect, this ropes course is a blast! We came into it expecting it to “easy” and we were oh so wrong. It was an absolute blast for kids and adults alike! They also had different options of medium to extreme routes for those that weren’t feeling as great about the adventures. Highly highly recommend for something to do in DFW with kids.

I lived in Shreveport for 12 years and literally just moved this summer. I used to go to Dallas/Fort Worth all the time, and I’m so bummed that I didn’t get to experience any of these hidden gems. I’ll have to pin this for when I go back again one day.
