The Texas Small Business Guide

November 19, 2018

Hey there Texans! As we are all facing challenges with COVID-19, I wanted to put together a list of some incredible Texas small businesses that are worth checking out.

If you have the ability to assist in supporting these local makers and creators, this is absolutely the time to do it! Many of these wonderful humans are struggling with the loss of income from shows, and this is a great way for us to come together and help in the ways we can.

BAGS & ACCESSORIES

Purse and Clutch
I actually got to meet the owner at an event recently, so I extra love them. Purse and Clutch employs women from Ethiopia, Mexico, and Guatamala and they create these stunning leather handbags and clutches. Such an amazing sustainable company!

Packed Party
The most colorful Austin based company that has ever existed. This is where you can find those see through bags for games, some crazy fun party tumblers, and SO much more for your colorful unique friends!

Newton Supply Co
These beautiful bags are all produced in Austin, and they’re perfect for your traveler or your bag lover!

Weather & Story
If you’re looking for high quality leather goods then this is absolutely the shop to go to. Their work is handcrafted locally, and truly incredible. These products will absolutely stand the test of time.

LOCALLY MADE ARTWORK

Kathy Phantastic
I could rave ALL DAY LONG about Kathy and the artwork she creates! It’s just fabulous. I have a custom painting from her in my bedroom and it always brings me joy. She does plenty of different custom watercolor paintings and other artwork, and I highly recommend checking her work out!

Jesilyn Kay Design
Another local Austin artist I love!! I have so many of her Texas prints, her stickers (looking at the one on my laptop right now), and her ornaments. They’re beautiful and they make for such lovely gifts for the people in your life!

ivelissedesigns
Steph is a calligrapher based out of Austin, and she has the MOST STUNNING artwork and designs. Especially a fan of her prints, which I have my eye on.

Watercolor ATX
These stunning prints are hand painted by Anna and so beautiful! The ideal gift for a local Austinite that loves having artwork on their walls.

Sarah Nave Studio
Saw her colorful prints for the first time, and they’re incredible! If you want some colorful artwork on your walls and love supporting local artists + mommas then check out her page. Full of custom works too!

Signet Sealed
Oh my gosh opened her page and right away found a print I want! Her illustrations are gorgeous, and she has SO many city options available if you’re looking for something outside of Texas. Also a fan of the dishtowels and mugs she offers!

Ginably
Counting down the minutes to April 3rd when she re-opens her shop!!! Her prints are beautiful, and I will be the first to check it out when it goes live.

Joy Smallwood Art
I am not at a place in my life I can afford beautiful pieces of painted art like this, so its my goal to one day be able to afford a custom large artwork from her. Until then, I have to share her incredible pieces so you can buy them while I cannot!!!

CERAMIC ARTS

Brush Strokes Pottery
Always in love with these pieces! I absolutely want those mugs myself. Her pieces are perfect gifts for the people you love and perfect for the women especially. I really want one of her mugs still, need to purchase that!

Eliana Bernard
I found Eliana’s Instagram and was HOOKED. If she wants to create everything that goes in my home ever, I would not be mad. She focuses on small-batch ceramics in her East Austin studio. Her pieces are perfectly crafted, some of the cleanest I have ever seen!

Succulent Native
Looking for some plant babies to take home and care for while you’re in quarantine? Check out Succulent Native! A great collection of houseplant cuties to care for.

Earthereal Designs
Tons of great items from her! Think nature and crystals and all the good vibes in the Earthereal shop. The above candles are from her, and I am definitely thinking of giving them as a gift to someone.

Karacotta Ceramics
If my entire home could be these pieces I would be so happy. The wall hanging are beautiful, the candles are beautiful, and the painted ceramics are beautiful. Seriously, elevate your home with these stunning pieces.

Kristin Saksa
Kristin makes ceramics that are SO fun and full of joy here in Austin! Her planters are the cutest gifts for those that like a little pop of color and joy in their life, highly recommend her shop!

CLOTHING

Frankie Jean
I am such a huge fan of Frankie Jean! Her t shirts and hats are the BEST and I love wearing my little green Texas hat around. I also have her prints hanging up in the office with me. Great gifts for your favorite people!

RhiannaMarieChan
Found her shop through an Instagram ad, and I am obsessed. Adding her to clothing because I am most tempted to purchase her cute shirts, but she has SO many fun items in her Etsy shop worth checking out. Can also find her prints on Society 6!

Tumbletweed Texstyles
The ultimate place to get Texas themed clothing items! Plenty of shirts, hats, and some art work too!

Ponytail Mafia
I have always loved what D’anna has done with Ponytail Mafia! She makes size inclusive women empowering clothing that is cute, comfortable, and so much fun to wear.

Trove
Firstly, the pieces at Trove are beautiful and unique. But the coolest part, is that Shop Trove focuses on creating jobs for those in developing countries, celebrating their culture, paying their people fair wages, and doing this while making sustainable choices.

The Silk Diaries
Kylee, of the Silk Diaries, actually hand-dyes all these beautiful silks herself. Her whole soul is poured into the silk she creates, and the pieces she makes. If you want something high end and beautiful and custom, then Silk Diaries is a wonderful place to start!

HOME GOODS

Hemlock & Heather
Been following their journey for a while (including their recent home reno!) and I am in LOVE with their work. It’s only a matter of time until I cave and purchase one of their beautiful Texas pieces for myself!!!

MJ Wood
Melia Nunez is a woman woodworker EXTRODINAIRE! Seriously, these pieces are absolutely stunning works of art for your home. I cannot get over it. These make the most beautiful gifts for your parents, new home owners, or lovers are beautiful home goods!

Stampworthy Goods
The furniture pieces they create are just STUNNING. I seriously have been eyeing a bar cart here for a century, but it’s just barely out of budget for me. If you’re looking to gift (or buy for yourself) a beautiful furniture piece, they’re the place to look.

Mercedez Rex
A local artist that creates home goods focused on spiritual wellness! A great place to find things from meditation cushions to colorful home decor.

Pickapeg
I absolutely love these wooden peg boards! I spotted Jane Ko of atasteofkoko.com using one of these for her display at a local market, and then found that Pickapeg also sells these for your own home and your walls. Such a cool piece for your home, and so fun!

Bit of Meraki
Basically the furnishing of my dream home. The pillows are absolutely the cutest, the poufs belong in my living room, these wall hangings are calling my wallets name, and MORE. Her home pieces are so beautiful, I don’t even know where to start.

Sister Mood Studios
These two sisters grew up as creatives together, and back in 2018 decided to join forces to create the Sister Moon Studios! They create these incredible ceramics (especially those mugs) and other unique pieces!

JEWELRY

Amanda Deer
One of my absolute favorite places to shop jewelry! She creates beautiful, high quality dainty jewelry pieces. Absolutely perfect for something more personal for your loved ones! These are some of my go-to ideas!

Copper and Quinn
These earrings are SO CUTE and, major bonus, so affordable. Literally picking out some cute pairs as gifts as we speak. Her earrings are within the majority of budgets, so you can shop local WITHOUT breaking the bank!

McKinley Mizar
McKinley has the coolest metal pieces in her jewelry collection. If you’re looking for something simple, but that makes a heck of a statement, these are a go-to!

Ariel Tidhar
If you’re a fan of fun and colorful then totally would check out the collection that Ariel Tidhar has! Think playful and youthful and full of life.

Lys Santamaria
Her bright and colorful pieces are SO CUTE! Oh my gosh the amount of color and creativity here brings me joy. Lys is Colombian and lives in Austin now, and her handmade jewelry represents her heritage and background. Such fun pieces as gifts, too!

Ellen Bruxvoort
Earrings and wall hangings are Ellen’s specialty, and she creates stunning artwork in both. Ellen focuses on using fibers to create these beautiful jewelry pieces (as well as some super cute wall hangings).

Year 901
Looking for simple jewelry pieces with lighter metals? Definitely check out Year 901! They’ve got minimalist and easy unique pieces that anyone can get behind.

Rust and Pearls
I love these beautiful jewelry pieces! They have a very vintage vibe, if you’re looking for something a little less modern and a little more old school. Plus, they’re all hand made in Texas!

Pamela B Designs
Love these designs! This is basically my style of jewelry in a nutshell right here. Simple, light, modern and in the affordable price range. Found her through Instagram as well, and love her pieces! Actually have given her earrings as gifts before!

Zoe Comings
Zoe makes the most elegant simple handmade porcelain jewelry pieces here in Austin. These simple pieces are so stunning, your mom or grandma or mother-in-law will be asking if they’re designer.

If you’re going to be stuck living at home for the next 30 days with no escape, then you might as well try and make your home smell like heaven. Definitely a step up from the way-too-lived-in smell it otherwise would have!

LOCAL BOUTIQUE STORES

All Good Things
If I had to pick one boutique I will forever love, it is absolutely going to be All Good Things. With absolutely stunning curated pieces in her job, Kristen does an amazing job of having a beautiful store where you can without a doubt find a gift for everyone in your life. If you haven’t stopped by yet, I would highly recommend!

The Homebodies Co
Homebodies Co was actually started by a local Austin blogger, Jules of Om and the City! It’s a small-batch low waste ethical shop for the homebody in your life, and the pieces that Jules curates are absolutely perfect.

Desk Plants
Desk Plants is a local Austin business that STARTED at the Austin Farmers Market, and was such a hit that they finally opened a little store up at the Domain in Austin! It’s the perfect plant shop to pick up a little goody!

Favor the Kind
Another local boutique I adore! They have plenty of locations in Dallas, and Houston so you’re bound to find a great spot near you. Plenty of cute little gems and fun gifts for everyone in your family!

Alli is really an artist, but she has SO MANY cool things that I couldn’t help but put her in this category! Seriously, you can shop her beautiful home decor, her famous floral coloring book, and so many other incredible things she creates!

Flea Style
Love this little Dallas vintage shop! A go-to spot of mine to find unique fun pieces and gifts for others. Definitely a great spot for the person that will roll their eyes if they get another Amazon gift. I have a few of those in my life!
