August 10, 2023

I’ve had my 15 Best Coffee Shops in Austin to Work From post for a WHILE now, and it definitely has some spots that I frequent for their strong wifi, their good coffee, their plethora of tables, and just general good vibe ness for working!

However, Austin is Austin for a reason, and that’s that it is (was?) weird. So we’re breaking off, and sharing unique Austin coffee shops that make Austin special! Because if you’re just in town for a short time or 24 hours, we want to make sure you see what types of coffee shops make our city stand out!

Civil Goat Coffee Shop

Located in Bee Caves, West Austin

What makes Civil Goat Special? Butters. The literal goat, that is. Butters is owned by the owner of Civil Goat over in Far West Austin, and he is a regular at the coffee shop himself! If you hang out on the back patio, you’re likely to find him out there too. Now don’t go with 100% confidence he will be there, because sometimes he stays home instead of venturing out. But I would say the odds he makes an appearance are usually high!

Plus, Civil Goat truly has some of the BEST coffee beans in Austin. I do love going to see Butters, but usually I go just to pick up their coffee beans and take them home with me.

Mozarts Coffee Roasters

Located in Tarrytown, West Austin

Personally, I’m a big fan of drinking my coffee whilst next to a gorgeous lake. And thankfully with Mozarts, I can do just that! Mozarts has been around for decades, because nothing beats a gorgeous 70 degree day drinking coffee with this view. They’re double deckered, so you usually don’t have any trouble finding a table to sit at and enjoy your coffee. Plus you can get food and pastries here!

And during the winter months around Christmas, Mozarts hosts their annual light show that you can enjoy! It used to be a just-show-up kind of thing, but now it’s reservation based so we highly recommend you book a spot in advance!

Jo’s Coffee Shop

Located off South Congress Street

If you have ever existed in the peak Tumblr and Instagram days, I am 100% confident you have seen this mural before. And Jo’s Coffee Shop off South Congress is exactly where you can find it! Pick up a coffee and snap a little photo at the mural to share to your mom who will absolutely smile when she see’s it.

My warning is that its HOT in Texas and there is usually a wait, so just be prepared this photo might come out a little sweaty. Also the coffee shop doesn’t actually have any inside seating and it’s just a table and some benches outside. So it’s more a quick pick up!

Buzzmill Coffee

Located in South Austin off Riverside

Buzzmill is probably the coffee shop I find myself at most often, so I have a huge bias for this spot. I almost never order my coffee and then sit and work here, but I order coffee (and beer tbh) here a LOT. Buzzmill is famous for many things. Firstly, they run their own Wilderness Society so you can pick up the coffee and maybe attend a meeting. Last time I was there the meeting was on types of bears, so thats fun.

Two, they’re 24 hours! Which if you’re a college student OR you’re someone who has to work very non traditional hours, this is probably a great spot to pick up coffee.

Also, they’re vegan! Well, this has slightly changed with some new non vegan options. But they are home to Plow Burger which IS a vegan food truck you can visit and that I highly recommend!

Flitch Coffee Truck

Located in East Austin

Flitch Coffee Truck was across the street from where I lived for 2.5 years, so it’s another one I found myself at quite often and love dearly! It’s an adorable coffee trailer just on the East Side and right next to a taco food truck. So you can order some yummy truck coffee and then pop next door for some tacos!

Austin is such a food truck city, it’s only logical we would have a coffee truck to go with it!

Revival Coffee

Located off 7th Street in East Austin

If you want the CUTEST most EXTRA coffee shop you have ever seen, may I recommend Revival Coffee for you! The entire inside is pink, just aggressively pink, and adorable. And as you can see, they made sure the outside matched too. It’s the Barbie Dreamhouse of Coffee Shops and its right in the heart of Austin.

Now their coffee itself has mixed reviews, but I personally think it’s good. Especially if you’re a fan of a sweet drink, then this is going to be the spot to try out on your list!

Cosmic Coffee & Radio Coffee

Both Located in South Austin

I absolutely LOVE Cosmic and Radio Coffee both! They’re both south Austin, one off South Lamar and one off South Congress. They have large outdoor patios, plenty of food truck options for bites, are open early and close late, and they’re ideal because in the middle of the day you can switch from coffee over to their extensive list of options for beers on tap!

It’s the perfect “day to night” transition, and one of my favorites for meeting up with coworkers because you go from work to happy hour right at the same space!
